Wood

At XL Print we print directly on wooden panels with UV flatbed technology, which gives a unique and tactile finish where the natural structure of the wood shines through. We work with chipboard, MDF and veneer panels in various thicknesses and finishes.

Printing on wood is ideal for trade fair builds where an organic and exclusive expression is desired. The wooden panels can be CNC milled as required.

We are happy to advise on the right material choice for your specific project — contact our team for a no-obligation discussion.

We print on a wide range of wood-based panel materials that can be adapted to the specific project.

Materials: Chipboard, MDF, birch veneer, oak veneer

Thicknesses: 3 mm to 22 mm depending on panel type

Print technique: UV flatbed print directly on the surface

Finishing: CNC milling

Wood is a natural and renewable material. We use FSC-certified panels when available, and print with UV ink free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Wooden panels can be reused, recycled or disposed of as biomass after their lifetime, making them a relatively sustainable material choice.

Natural and exclusive

The wood's natural grain and structure shine through and give a warm, authentic expression that cannot be achieved with other materials.

Versatile processing

Can be CNC milled, drilled and lacquered

Spørgsmål og svar

De mest stillede spørgsmål om vores ydelser og processer.

Do you offer cutting and milling of printed materials?

Yes, we CNC-mill and contour-cut acrylic, aluminium, foamboard, MDF and other materials in any shape — from simple rectangles to complex contours and letters.

What types of lamination do you offer?

Matte lamination for a muted look, gloss lamination for vivid colours, soft-touch for a velvety surface, and UV lamination for extra protection. Lamination extends lifespan and gives a professional finish.

What is the difference between a mesh banner and a PVC banner?

A PVC banner is dense and opaque — ideal for sharp graphics and outdoor use. A mesh banner has a perforated structure that lets wind pass through, perfect for façade banners and scaffolding. So if your product is going to hang somewhere wind-exposed, you should use a mesh banner.

Can you print directly on boards and hard materials?

Yes, with our UV flatbed printer we can print directly onto acrylic, sandwich panels, foamboard, PVC, wood and many more. Direct print gives a sharp, durable result with no overlay needed. Maximum board thickness approx. 50 mm. Maximum size is 200 × 300 cm.

How large can you print in large format?

Our large format printers print up to 5 metres in width and practically unlimited in length. Banner prints can also be sewn or welded together into huge formats. For board printing (UV flatbed) we handle up to 3 × 2 metres.

What does XL Print do with leftover materials and waste?

We sort and recycle all paper, cardboard and plastic waste. Leftover materials are minimised through optimised cutting layouts and digital workflows. We partner with certified recycling providers for specialist materials.

Do you offer print on sustainable materials?

We use FSC-certified paper and cardboard, recyclable textiles and honeycomb board that's part of a circular production process. We always advise on the most environmentally friendly solution that still meets your requirements for quality and durability.

We work continuously to find new and better materials that can replace or phase out less sustainable products. At the same time we have a clear goal to remove or minimise the use of PVC in our production.

We really appreciate customers who demand sustainability and quality – it challenges us, sharpens our solutions and makes us even stronger than our competitors.

Is XL Print an environmentally friendly company?

Yes – sustainability is a core value for us.
Around 50% of our energy use is covered by solar energy. In fact, our solar panels produce all the electricity we need across the year. Since we can't yet store the energy efficiently, we feed the electricity into the grid and buy it back during the darker months. It's not the perfect solution – but it's still a significantly greener alternative to fossil energy.

In addition, we work continuously to reduce waste, reuse materials and choose greener alternatives throughout production. We offer, among other things, FSC-certified paper and environmentally friendly inks, so you can choose solutions with a lower environmental impact without compromising on quality.

How long do your prints last outdoors?

Our board materials are printed with UV technology, giving an outdoor lifespan of around 3–5 years.
Laminated vinyl prints likewise have an expected outdoor lifespan of 3–5 years under normal Danish weather conditions.

Mesh banners are particularly well suited to outdoor use and have a lifespan of more than 4 years. Correct, professional installation can significantly extend the lifespan of all solutions.

Our dye-sub banners are primarily intended for shorter outdoor periods and have an expected lifespan of 3–6 months depending on weather and placement.

What is the difference between indoor and outdoor print?

Outdoor print requires UV-resistant inks and weather-resistant materials like vinyl, mesh or banner. Indoor print can use a broader selection including paper and untreated boards. We always advise on the right choice.

What materials can XL Print print on?

We print on a broad selection: paper and cardboard, vinyl and self-adhesive films, mesh banner, textile, acrylic and aluminium sheets, foamboard, wood panels and many more. We're happy to advise on the best material choice for your project and placement.

Will I get a proof before you print my job?

No, we don't always send a digital proof for approval before production.
For larger or more complex jobs, however, we're happy to send a digital test print. We always recommend that you review colours, text and layout carefully before production.

For colour-critical jobs we can offer a physical colour proof at an additional charge, so expectations and result match exactly.

We take great care in getting the job right, so we'd rather reach out one time too many than one too few to ensure the right result. The final approval is still your responsibility and acts as a binding acceptance of the job for production.

What file formats does XL Print accept?

We recommend print-ready PDF files (PDF/X-1a or PDF/X-4) with at least 300 dpi, 5 mm bleed and crop marks. We prefer to receive PDF files only. Avoid Word and PowerPoint files for print production.
